The Director of Conservation is a key member of New River Conservancy’s senior staff. The position works with a broad range of partners and the public to develop, fund and implement stream and floodplain restoration, land protection and other conservation projects. The Director of Conservation serves as significant focal point among the North Carolina conservation community, managing relationships with County leadership, City government officials, State Agencies and among other conservation groups.
The Director also serves two primary watershed-wide roles, the first as lead for the NRC internal “River Ecology” team, ensuring that projects throughout the watershed bear the NRC hallmarks of quality, community engagement, efficiency and transparency. The second is to ensure the NRC meets the standards set forth by the Land Trust Alliance by monitoring and stewarding NRC’s easement portfolio across three states.
Finally, the Director of Conservation is the Senior staff member duty stationed at the West Jefferson headquarters office. It is incumbent upon the Director to lead in creating a welcoming, efficient and positive work environment at the New River Conservancy’s North Carolina office.
