The Sullivan County Soil & Water Conservation District is seeking a District Technician to support conservation programs across Sullivan County, Tennessee. This position assists with technical and field services, project implementation, and outreach to ensure conservation practices are properly implemented and maintained. Duties include technical assistance to landowners, program and project support, recordkeeping, and compliance with NRCS/TDA conservation standards.
This position is grant-funded in partnership with TDA and NRCS, with matching funds from Sullivan County. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability and renewal of the grant funding.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Possession of a valid Tennessee driver’s license
- Successful completion of a federal background check
Preferred:
- Education or experience in agriculture, natural resources, or a related field
- GIS/GPS skills
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Working indoors and outdoors, including traversing uneven terrain, streams, and other natural obstacles, and variable weather conditions
- Moving, transporting, or positioning materials, supplies, and equipment generally up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to travel throughout Sullivan County and occasionally outside the county
Compensation, Benefits & Schedule:
- Starting pay is $18.53 per hour
- Benefits provided through Sullivan County Government
- Standard Schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (30-minute lunch)
Occasional evenings or weekends required for Board meetings, outreach, educational, and special events.
