The Jones Center at Ichauway invites applications for the role of Ecohydrology Research Associate (RA) position. The RA will contribute to an interdisciplinary research program of a staff scientist and will manage projects that examine the effects of forest management practices, land cover and climate change on water use at the plant, stand, and watershed scales.
The 28,500-acre Research Center is located between Albany and Bainbridge Georgia. The Center’s research, education, and conservation programs focus on ecology and natural resource management. The site includes 16,000 acres of longleaf pine forests, over 1,000 acres of wetlands, and 26 miles of stream and river ecosystems. Qualifications: A Master’s degree with specialization in any of the following areas: ecosystem ecology, plant physiological ecology, forest ecology, (eco)hydrology, or related discipline.
Requirements include strong data management skills, experience programming in R, experience with GIS, and experience leading forest or plant community field data collection. Experience with data loggers and sensors (e.g. Campbell, Onset, etc.) and/or gas exchange measurements is desirable, but not required.
Duties: The position includes both office and field duties. Primary duties include:
• Day-to-day management of lab technicians and lab resources
• Data curation, QA/QC, processing, and analysis
• Calibration, maintenance and operation of field and lab instrumentation, especially field-based sensors such as water-level loggers, soil moisture sensors, and sap-flux probes
• Installation and maintenance of sensors, plant and soil gas exchange measurements, field sampling of forest community structure, and assistance with design and implementation of other ecohydrologic measurements
• Facilitation of graduate student projects
• Preparation of products for conferences, peer-reviewed publications, and grant proposals
• Occasional overnight travel (less than 10 nights per year)
• A willingness to learn new skills or improve existing ones through formal and informal training
Compensation: Starting salary is $48K. A competitive benefits package is included. This is a permanent, full-time, on-site position.
