Ecological Restoration Project Leader (Full Time)
Location: Independence, MN
Restore Landscapes That Matter. Lead Work You’re Proud Of.
At Natural Shore Technologies, we restore functioning ecosystems that people see, use, and value every day. From large-scale lakeshore restorations on Lake Minnetonka to high-visibility public natural areas, our work blends client goals, site conditions, ecology, design, and craftsmanship.
We’re growing—and we’re looking for a Project Leader who’s ready to step into a key field leadership role, take ownership of meaningful projects, and help shape the next generation of restoration professionals.
If you’re someone who is passionate about restoration, likes to work hard in the field, knows Minnesota native plants, and is ready to lead crews and run restoration projects- this role is built for you.
Your Key Responsibilities
You’ll be trusted to think, adapt, and lead and grow professionally.
You will:
- Lead a 5-person field crew installing high-quality ecological restoration projects around the Twin Cities Metro Area
- Make real-time decisions in the field regarding – site preparation, invasive plant control, seeding and planting methods, design adjustments
- Own project execution from mobilization through installation
- Train and mentor staff, helping entry-level technicians build real ecological restoration skills
- Work directly with clients (homeowners, businesses, agencies) as the face of the company on-site
- Operate restoration equipment (trucks-trailers, UTVs, saws, sprayers, etc.)
- Apply your plant knowledge daily—this is a hands-on applied ecology position
- Keep projects organized and documented, ensuring high-quality outcomes that exceed client goals
What Makes This Role Attractive
- Visible, meaningful work – You’ll drive past your projects for years and see thriving natural systems you helped create
- Autonomy in the field – You’re not micromanaged; you’re trusted to make decisions each day
- Leadership without being stuck behind a desk – you are applying your skills in the field to create and preserve Minnesota ecosystems
- Diverse Metro area projects – Shorelines, prairies, woodlands, wetlands—not repetitive work in a small geographic area
- Integrated nursery access – You’ll take part in producing high-quality, locally grown native plant material
- Growth path – Clear trajectory toward Senior Project Manager / Ecologist roles
What You Bring
- 2+ years of hands-on natural resources or restoration field experience
- Strong native and invasive plant ID skills
- Experience leading or mentoring crews (formal or informal)
- Ability to work hard in the field—this is a physically demanding, outdoor role
- Comfortable making decisions and solving problems independently
- Valid driver’s license and ability to haul trailers/equipment
- Herbicide application experience (or willingness to quickly become licensed)
A degree in ecology, environmental science, or similar is helpful—but real, quality field experience matters more.
Compensation & Benefits
- $50,000 – $58,000 base salary (flexible based on experience and leadership ability)
- Performance bonus (1–5%) tied to your contribution and project success
- Health insurance (company pays 50% of premium through HealthPartners)
- 401(k) with 4% company match
- Paid time off + sick leave
- Consistent full-time hours (40–50/week) with seasonal flexibility
If you’re ready to take ownership of meaningful work—leading crews, making field decisions, and building ecosystems that will be thriving decades from now—this is your opportunity. Step into a role where your judgment matters, your hard work is appreciated, and your career accelerates. Let’s talk about joining our team.
