About I.CARE: Working locally in the Islamorada area, we collaborate with local dive operators in teaching and outplanting corals and sponges with recreational divers, monitoring and caring for transplanted corals and sponges, and conducting broader reef ecosystem surveys. Involving the community is a key aspect of I.CARE's reef restoration mission and sharing this information with the general public allows us to actively engage with everyday folks who may otherwise be unaware of the importance of our reefs.
About the Internship: The I.CARE Education & Outreach Intern will support hands-on marine conservation efforts while helping translate science into engaging outreach for the public. This role combines aspects of visual storytelling, environmental education, social media support, non-profit communications, and science. We encourage young professionals who have recently graduated to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in executing education & outreach programming, including educational presentations to engage the public
- Gather and organize photos/videos in-water and on land of I.CARE activities
- Assist with crafting content for social media (captions, reels, species ID posts, event recaps, etc)
- Be present at I.CARE events to document for social media materialsAssist the Education & Outreach Coordinator in annual fundraising events, including but not limited to the I.CARE Halloween Party and the Annual I.CARE Trash Derby
- Attend and lead I.CARE booth at outreach events with/without the Education & Outreach Coordinator, including set-up/take-down of I.CARE education booth display, interacting with attendees, and providing information about I.CARE in a friendly and engaging manner
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Personal vehicle and a US driver’s license
Strong interest in marine conservation, environmental education, or communications - Strong written and verbal communication skills (science-curious storytellers encouraged!)
- Comfortable working outdoors and around water
- Organized, reliable, and proactive attitude
- Familiarity with Instagram and social media trends
- Advanced Open Water SCUBA certified or higher (PADI, NAUI, etc)
Preferred:
- Background in marine science or related field
- Rescue SCUBA certification or higher
- Experience in communications, marketing, or graphics
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently or in a team setting
- Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Lightroom), Procreate, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok,
- Teaching experience
