POSITION TITLE: Education and Outreach Program Manager
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Executive Director, has the responsibility to plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate all Education and Outreach Programs of the SCWF, ensuring access to diverse audiences throughout the state.
The Education and Outreach Program Manager is a key member of SCWF’s Education Programs team, responsible for managing the administrative details that keep programs running smoothly and ensure a high-quality experience for participants. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a strong attention to detail, a talent for creating organization and structure, and a genuine commitment to pursuing SCWF’s mission.
Position is fulltime, with most work being done at the office. Hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday-Friday. Occasional evenings and weekend work needed. Pay will be determined by education and experience. Position will require in-state travel with personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed). A laptop computer will be provided, use of personal cellphone will be needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to interact with people, excellent customer service ethic, and work independently as well as within a team
- Self-motivated, efficient and organized, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Drive and Zoom
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree achieved in education or science field
- Prior experience in environmental education and/or program management
- Passion and experience in nature, wildlife, and conservation activities
MAJOR DUTIES:
- PALMETTO OUTDOOR WOMEN’S RETREAT (SUMMER and FALL) - Schedule, plan, and organize this series of events, including a large weekend retreat in the fall. Support Operations and Communications Manager in managing registration database and responding to inquiries.
- MIDLANDS MASTER NATURALIST PROGRAM (WINTER and SPRING) - Schedule, plan, and organize Midlands Master Naturalist course, as well as statewide opportunities for advanced training and volunteer service for graduates. Develop schedule and coordinate details with instructors and site contacts. Maintain class materials and communicate detailed information to all participants.
- PALMETTO PRO BIRDER PROGRAM (YEAR-ROUND) - Schedule, plan, and organize Pro Birder classes at various locations throughout the state. Coordinate details with instructors and site contacts. Arrange for event advertisement and registration, maintain participant database, and ensure communication with participants.
- VOLUNTEER COORDINATION (YEAR-ROUND) - Schedule regular volunteer events and recruit, manage and recognize volunteers. Build a volunteer ambassador program to assist staff with presentations, events and program management.
- PLISHING (SUMMER) - Coordinate statewide challenge each summer. Identify opportunities for volunteer litter sweeps and/or fishing education events.
- SCHOLARSHIPS (FALL) - Work with the scholarship committee to ensure promotion and execution of the SCWF Conservation Education Foundation scholarship program. Advertise to colleges and universities with environment-related fields; coordinate review and selection process; communicate with committee members, faculty advisers, and students.
- PHOTO CONTEST (FALL) - Communicate with participants, review and log entries, manage judging by staff and board members, follow up with all participants, and publicize winning images.
- EDUCATION OUTREACH (YEAR-ROUND) - Consistently work to promote SCWF programs, events, and news to SCWF donors, supporters, conservation community, schools, partners, statewide media, and beyond. Strategize, implement, and maintain accessible educational content across all digital platforms and communication channels.
- HABITAT PROGRAM ASSISTANCE (YEAR-ROUND, AS NEEDED) - Assist Conservation Program Manager and Industry Habitat Manager with habitat program promotion, scheduling, volunteer opportunities, etc., as needed.
- GENERAL

- Represent SCWF at related meetings, conferences, etc., as requested by Executive Director
- Build and maintain relationships with other environmental education professionals throughout South Carolina, attending and supporting their meetings/events/programs as appropriate
- Build and maintain relationships with education staff at NWF and other state affiliates
- Coordinate with other staff on projects as appropriate
- Maintain appropriate interpersonal relationships with employees, peers, and donors
- Execute administrative duties related to all above items, unless delegated to other team members
- Other duties as assigned
