Position Summary 

Join a team that values the diverse talents and ideas of each staff member at Green Bay Botanical Garden. The Education Coordinator plays a key role in bringing the Garden’s mission to life by creating engaging, hands-on educational experiences that inspire curiosity, discovery, and a deeper connection with plants and the natural world. This position develops and leads dynamic youth and family programs, coordinates adult learning opportunities taught by community experts, and collaborates with colleagues across the Garden to expand the reach and impact of educational initiatives. Working closely with the Director of Education, the Education Coordinator helps cultivate meaningful learning experiences that encourage people of all ages to explore, learn, and grow with plants.  

Core Competencies & Essential Functions 

  • Develop educational programs, drop-in activities, and events, including creating new and improving existing curriculum, and recruit new class instructors, including but not limited to: 
  • Children and family classes and programs: camp, story time, discovery boxes, discovery carts, scavenger hunts, snowshoe hikes 
  • Day and evening classes for adult learners 
  • Teach education programs, including youth field trips, adult tours, outreach programs, and family classes such as summer day camps, story time, and gardening activities. 
  • Coordinate program logistics, including monitoring registrations, preparing program materials and spaces, managing check-in, and facilitating program evaluations.  
  • Assist in the coordination of and collaborate with volunteers, seasonal staff, and interns to implement programs, including training and scheduling. 
  • Collaborate across departments to plan for educational content for interpretive signs, blogs, & social posts, assist in writing and producing content. 
  • Support the Director of Education in the planning and tracking of the education department budget. 
  • Work with Director of Education in developing the educational components of special Garden-wide exhibits. 
  • Maintain children’s lending library. 
  • Participate in the required shifts for the Garden’s largest fundraising event, Garden of Lights presented by Wisconsin Public Service Foundation, by being available to work the required number of evening and weekend shifts.  
  • Attend and assist with Garden events as requested. 
  • Fulfill administrative duties as assigned, including managing programs in booking software and tracking attendance at educational events. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications, Skills, & Physical Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in horticulture education, environmental education, interpretation, education, environmental science, or related field, with at least three to four years of experience with curriculum writing, program development, and leading programs for a variety of ages. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills, including public speaking, with a sincere desire to serve the public. 
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Teams and/or other database programs; Blackbaud Altru knowledge a plus. 
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and complete tasks demonstrating attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness. 
  • Flexible in working hours and environment, as many events are held outdoors and evenings and weekends are required on occasion. 
  • Physically able to stand, kneel, or walk for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 lbs., and work outside in all types of weather conditions. 
  • Dependable, reliable, team player. 
  • Experience working within a non-profit environment and/or using community resources is a plus.
