Purpose of Position: To professionally conduct NBSTCC’s Education Program while connecting the center with its surrounding community. Organize and participate in on and off-site programs and events that support NBSTCC’s mission.
Position Summary: The education coordinator’s primary responsibility is to connect the NBSTCC with its surrounding community by identifying potential partnerships within our tri-county area. The Education Coordinator develops, manages, and delivers educational programs that support the mission of the center. This role focuses on engaging the public, schools, volunteers, and community groups through conservation, education,and hands-on learning experiences. The coordinator is actively seeking new opportunities to engage in events within our tri-county area and partnership with fellow organizations. They work closely with the Volunteer Manager and Animal Care Manager to form a cohesive team for all events.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develops and maintains an education handbook, training, and program manuals to ensure standard operating procedures within all aspects of the department.
- Create curriculum and activities for different audiences (schools, families, tourists, and community groups).
- Lead educational tours, workshops, camps, and presentations.
- Facilitate interactive learning experiences and the ability to adapt your teaching methods to meet various age groups/learning styles.
- Represent the conservation center at outreach events, fairs, and community programs while building partnerships with schools, universities, and community organizations.
- Primary POC for all education events including NBSTCC special events, field trips, outreaches and other specialized programs.
- Trains and supervises interns and a large group of education volunteers.
- Maintains records and prepares reports on educational activities and must submit financial reports to NBSTCC weekly/monthly.
- Evaluates program effectiveness and makes improvements based on outcomes, and tracks participation and collects feedback from visitors and educators.
- Provides content for social media, marketing materials, and other information that promotes the NBSTCC and its mission.
Additional Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, biology, zoology, or related area of study
- Must be detail oriented and self-motivated.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and creative skills are necessary.
- Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Strong computer literacy and data entry skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail).
- Must be physically fit; able to lift, carry, and push objects weighing at least 50 lbs.
- Requires working outdoors, exposed to extreme temperatures and harsh weather conditions.
- Physical exertion will include repetitive standing, walking, stooping, bending, pushing, twisting and lifting.
