Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium (CNCP) is a nonprofit organization with the mission of “inspiring people to connect with Nature”. CNCP focuses on the care of non-releasable rehabilitated wildlife, environmental education, space education, and conservation education for the SWFL community and visiting guests.

As an Educator at CNCP, you will play a vital role in delivering engaging educational programs to visitors, primarily focusing on environmental education. You will have the opportunity to work in a unique setting that offers museum exhibits, nature trails, a Planetarium, live animal exhibits, and more, all aimed at educating visitors about Southwest Florida's natural history. This position is a great way to start off a career in environmental education. Educators will also assist in daily cleaning and feeding of animal ambassadors.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

1. Present educational lessons and activities as directed by Education Director.

2. Help develop and implement lesson plans, activities, and environmental educational programs.

3. Provide daily public presentations and field trip programming as assigned and scheduled.

4. Provide guidance, instructions, and training for animal care to approved volunteers and staff, as necessary per Animal Care Director.

5. Prepare diets for all animals according to the schedule and dietary requirements set forth by the License/Permit holder and Animal Care Director.

6. Clean and disinfect animal ambassador habitats according to the instructions and schedule set forth by the License/Permit holder and Animal Care Director.

7. Participate in daily record keeping responsibilities.

8. Keep all supplies, working areas, and Commissary clean and organized.

9. Report any necessary habitat repairs, replacements, or upgrades that are required for the wellbeing of the animals.

Qualifications and skills:

1. Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or similar (Required)

2. Comfortability and experience working with animals

3. Experience working with people of all ages (especially children) including special needs groups

4. Comfort speaking in front of a group and doing public presentations

5. Ability to climb stairs, lift 25 lbs

6. Depth of knowledge on flora, fauna, and willingness to learn more and stay up to date

7. Naturalist certification (Preferred)

8. Ability to work collaboratively and on your own

9. Ability to work outside in extreme Florida weather conditions

10. Computer literacy including, but not limited to, Microsoft office.

11. Must maintain a positive and outgoing demeanor

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
