Educator

Temporary Seasonal Position 

Estimated dates: October 19, 2026 - May 15, 2026, Funding Permitting

Position Title: Seasonal Educator                                     

Supervisor: Development and Education Program Manager 

Pay Rate: $21/hour. Prorated holiday pay and prorated sick leave included  

Position Summary: Delivery of education and engagement programming for Sound Salmon Solutions, including outreach events                     

Hours: Up to 24 hours per week. Generally Monday-Thursday, between 7AM – 5PM with some weekend and after hours work (such as science nights at schools, etc.). Hours & days are flexible, and may be subject to change depending upon funding. 

Job Requirements:

1. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

2. Ability to drive up to 1.5  hours one way to a school, up to 3 hours per day (company vehicle  or current IRS mileage reimbursement provided)

3. Submit to and pass a background check for working with children, schools and interns

4. Ability to lift up to 40lbs

5. Ability to work outside for long periods in a variety of weather conditions 

Qualifications:

1. 18 years or older 

2. Valid driver's license 

3. Effective written and oral communication skills

4. Strong interpersonal skills and an approachable personality

5. The ability to receive feedback and demonstrate a growth mindset

6. Ability to navigate difficult classroom situations, including students and teachers

7. Ability to maintain accurate records with an attention to details

8. Proficient in the Google Suite as well as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and competent with social media

9. Strong interest in the recovery of salmon and their habitat

10. Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal oversight as well as part of a team 

11. Punctual and prepared for daily tasks

12. Proficiency in a second language is an asset but not required

13. Experience caring for fish aquariums is an asset but not required

Responsibilities:

A.  Education 

1. Deliver salmon and water quality education lessons to Pre K-12 students in the classroom and in the field, including both team-teaching and solo teaching

2. Assist in lesson planning, preparation, and clean up

3. Document education lesson data for tracking & reporting purposes

4. Provide in-office support to the Education Program as needed

3. Report any incidents, supply shortages, or program needs ASAP to the supervisor(s)

4. Assist with program development 

B.  Engagement

1. Staff engagement tables at outreach events and interact with the public

2. Assist in preparing for outreach events and managing engagement materials

3. Assist with reporting on outreach events 

4. Assist with occasional volunteer events 

C. Miscellaneous

1. Support with animal husbandry, including the set up and take down and maintenance of office and classroom salmon tanks

2. May be required to respond to after-hours tank emergencies

3. Perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor(s) 

4. Assist with hatchery events
