Do you enjoy helping people connect with and understand the natural world? Make new friends, explore coastal Alaska, and gain skills that will last a lifetime!

As an Environmental Educator, Naturalist or Summer Coordinator with the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies you'll have the opportunity to share your energy and enthusiasm by leading educational programs for children, school groups, locals, and visitors to Alaska. As a non-profit environmental education and stewardship organization, the CACS mission is to foster responsible interaction with our natural surroundings and to generate knowledge of the unique ecosystems of Kachemak Bay. Summer seasonal staff are employed in these five unique locations: the Wynn Nature Center (a 145-acre boreal forest preserve), Inspiration Ridge Preserve (a stunning mosaic of forest, bogs, meadows, ponds and creeks), Peterson Bay Field Station (a semi-rustic facility across Kachemak Bay and accessible only by boat), Yurt on the Spit (exploration of invertebrate life living on and around the Homer harbor docks), and the CACS Headquarters Building in downtown Homer (where day camp starts and ends each day). We also lead trips for teens in the Kachemak Bay State Park.  Most summer positions run from May 26th–September 1st, 2026 with a few ending slightly earlier due to the nature of the position.

Qualified applicants are energetic and flexible, possess curiosity and enthusiasm about the natural world and human communities, have experience or a desire to develop skills in place-based environmental education or natural history interpretation, and demonstrate the maturity needed to live in group situations.

Benefits include compensation of $19-21 per hour depending on responsibilities, plus shared housing, and 40 hours of paid sick/mental health leave. (Those who do not use CACS housing are paid an additional $3/hour).
