Responsibilities
As the Energy Engineer II for the Washington State University (WSU) Energy Program, you will develop and deliver programs that support a wide range of distributed and onsite energy generation technologies and energy efficiency strategies, with a focus on industrial and large commercial customers. You may also contribute to significant projects or programs such as the Onsite Energy Technical Assistance Partnership program and our Washington State technical assistance program for green hydrogen.
You will also serve as a technical resource for other diverse projects within the Energy Program. In this role, you will contribute to or lead strategic relationship development, grant proposals, and funding initiatives to meet the evolving needs of regional stakeholders relating to energy. Additionally, you will assist with project management, outcome tracking, reporting, and budget management to ensure successful stewardship of grants and contract funding.

Required Qualifications
- Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant energy engineering discipline and at least four (4) years of related professional-level engineering experience. A Master’s degree in a relevant energy engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. A Fundamentals of Engineering certification or a Professional Engineer’s license is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Mechanical engineer or power engineer preferred.
- Registration as a professional engineer in the State of Washington, or registration as a professional engineer in another state, with the ability to get a WA license through comity.
- Experience in providing energy- related analyses for large energy-using clients (e.g. industrial or commercial clients); experience working with onsite energy generation technologies and/or with energy efficiency projects.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience providing high quality customer service to clients.
- Excellent organizational, technical writing, and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated computer skills with energy system performance analysis software, databases, spreadsheets, and processing applications.
- Analytical engineering skills including knowledge in the areas of data collection, analysis, and visualization.
- Knowledge of common industrial systems such as compressed air, boilers, hydraulics, lighting, motors, and motor control systems.
- Knowledge of commercial and industrial energy systems, such as combined heat and power, solar, wind, district heating, and/or geothermal.
- Knowledge of industrial process requirements such as in the food processing and wood products industries.
- Knowledge of fluid transport refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
- Knowledge of potential funding sources, and experience developing proposals for funding.
- Examples of preferred certifications: A licensed professional architect or engineer, Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP) certified by the American Society of Heating, refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE),a Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) certified by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), a certified energy manager (CEM) in current standing certified by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), an energy management professional (EMP) certified by the Energy Management Association (EMA)
Position Sponsorship Eligibility: May be eligible for work visa sponsorship.
Monthly Salary: $9,550 - $11,216 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications
Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end on June 30, 2028. The position is renewed depending on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
