ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION COMMISSION
Engineering Specialist I - Air Division - Permitting & Compliance
 

Performs a variety of duties in support of broad engineering assignments related to air permitting in a field or office setting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Or
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Ability to identify discrepancies between work performed and specifications.

• Ability to perform engineering calculations.
• Ability to keep accurate field notes.
• Ability to collect, organize and evaluate data and develop logical conclusions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Work is typically performed in an office or out in the field.  May be required to work in subtropical climate.
• Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, stooping, and climbing ladders.
• Must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.
 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.
• Engineering review of compliance reports and technical documents. This includes demonstrating knowledge of industrial processes, air pollution controls, regulations, and review of compliance reports.  
• Performs environmental engineering reviews of permit applications that include process analysis, emission assessment, and rule applicability. Prepares drafts of industrial air pollution permits containing federally enforceable conditions to provide reasonable assurance of compliance with the regulations.
• Conducts environmental inspections of industrial sources. This includes performing inspections as part of the permit application review, inspections to determine compliance status with the applicable regulations, compliance test audits and citizen complaint investigations. 
• Prepares comprehensive technical reports and completes database entries.
• Performs other related duties as required.
