Exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technician or Engineer in Training to join Cramer Fish Sciences' River Assessment and Design Lab in Boise, ID!

This full-time position will support our river restoration design and monitoring projects through data collection, analysis, and the development of technical design drawings and graphics using AutoCAD/ArcGIS. Experience in hydrology and hydraulics, drafting and engineering design, GIS, and/or geomorphology highly desired.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Engineering Technician:

  • Support the development of plan sheets, maps, sections, profiles, details, and other graphics using AutoCAD to convey design elements.
  • Document, maintain, and refine computer aided drafting (CAD) standards and workflows.
  • Revising plan sheets marked up by clients and/or engineers.
  • Collaborate on production of construction drawings, design documentation, and technical specifications.
  • Assist in maintaining CAD templates and content libraries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Engineer in Training (EIT):

  • Perform data collection and analyses related to streamflow hydrology and hydraulics, sediment transport, and topographic data.
  • Provide technical support for engineering design and analysis of riverine systems.
  • Support the development of design drawings, maps, cross sections, long profiles, and other graphics using AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS to convey habitat restoration designs.
  • Collaborate on production of technical reports concisely describing project background, methodologies, and results.
  • Support hydrologic and hydraulic analysis including data synthesis and model development (including HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, HEC-HMS, HSPF, and others).
  • Attend and present at scientific meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Engineering Technician:

  • Associate's degree or Certificate in Computer Drafting, Civil Technology, or an equivalent field (2-year program) and/or 2 years of related experience.
  • At least 1 year of direct experience in AutoCAD Civil3D with a strong desire to learn.
  • Familiarity with plan set production, alignments, surfaces, and CAD workflows.
  • Understanding of applicable Department of Transportation (WSDOT, ODOT, ITD) CAD standards and specifications.
  • Ability to track, manage, and prioritize workload and clearly communicate progress and status of tasks to project managers.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Engineer in Training (EIT):

  • Bachelor's degree from ABET-accredited engineering program in Hydrology, Hydraulics, Geomorphology or Civil Engineering, or an equivalent field and 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • General experience in CAD and GIS with a strong desire to learn more.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with R or other standard statistical software.
  • Demonstrated skills in data collection, management, and analysis, developing graphs and communicating project methods and findings in presentations and reports.
  • Valid Driver's License.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (SHARED):

  • Experience with topographic survey methods such as Bathymetric Surveying, Real Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS and/or Total Station and processing.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic models such as HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, HEC-HMS, HSPF, or other 1-D / 2D models.
  • Experience in ArcGIS or QGIS including acquiring and processing geospatial data, cartography, and geospatial analysis relevant to river and watershed analysis.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be comfortable working in the aquatic environment including working from a boat platform, swimming and wading in rivers, streams, and lakes.
  • Must be able to work effectively and drive safely in inclement weather, including hot, cold, rain, fog, and smoky conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Possible long periods of computerized data analysis in an office environment.
  • Flexible hours (including weekends and evenings) and travel to remote areas for 2-3 days at a time.

COMPENSATION (DEPENDENT ON EXPERIENCE):

  • Engineering Technician: $24-$29/hour (~$50,000 - $60,000 per year)
  • Engineer in Training: $60,000 - $80,000 per year
