Key Responsibilities
- Prepare concept stream alignments and profiles, create construction plans and details, model FEMA floodplain elevations, design and model culverts, submit erosion control permits, and more using AutoCAD Civil3D and ArcGIS software.
- Collaborate with Senior Designers and Project Managers to implement comprehensive stream and wetland restoration projects, including assessment, design, modeling, construction plans, construction specifications, erosion control plans, and construction oversight.
- Conduct fieldwork with our engineers and scientists to assess and monitor our projects.
- Write technical reports to support assessment, design, and modeling tasks.
- Prepare and troubleshoot models to support design and permitting activities; software may include HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PCSWMM and HY-8.
Ideal Qualifications
- A four-year degree in biological systems, civil, agricultural, or environmental engineering. Preferred coursework includes any of the following: water resources engineering, civil engineering, stream/wetland/ecological restoration, stormwater management, hydrology/hydraulics, soil science, biology, ecology, surveying, fluvial geomorphology, fluid mechanics/open channel flow, and sediment transport.
- Up to 2 years of water resources experience.
- Experience designing ecosystem restoration projects and stormwater control measures.
- A general understanding of ecological processes relevant to riparian and wetland restoration in the southeastern United States.
- Experience with hydrologic and/or hydraulic modeling and understanding of open channel flow.
- Experience with ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Experience preparing construction documents, including construction plans, erosion control, bid estimates, technical specifications, and technical reporting.
- Ability to obtain professional licensure as an Engineering Intern is preferred.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Ability to meet the physical demands needed to complete various field assignments.
- Candidates must have a valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands
- Ability to frequently walk over rough, uneven surfaces.
- Ability to sustain periods of strenuous physical exertion.
- Part of the job requirements and the physical demands are performed in outdoor weather conditions with frequent exposure to wet/humid conditions and extreme heat or cold. Other adverse factors may include exposure to ticks and poison ivy.
