Share your love of nature and explore with the students of Whatcom County!   

Help NSEA connect Elementary level students to their watersheds as a part of our Students for Salmon program. Education Interns are responsible for leading small groups during field trips and engaging students in hands-on activities along a stream. Guide these young scientists through water quality testing, macroinvertebrate samples, and native plant identification to assess salmon habitat in their school’s watershed.

Qualifications

Prior experience working with elementary school students is preferred but not required. Must be self-motivated, well-organized, and enjoy working outside in all types of weather. Applicants should also have (or be enthused to build) a basic knowledge of stream ecology and salmon life history. Must be able to lift and carry 40lbs.

Time Commitment

This is a volunteer internship that requires a time commitment of at least one full Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday per week from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Hours will vary depending on your availability. Opportunities to get involved are available from October through December.
