Paid Position:  10 weeks, 35 hr/wk   Salary ranges $11 to $14.50/hr depending upon experience.

The intern will spend the majority of their time outdoors removing and monitoring invasive plants at several project sites in Caumsett State Park including a 30-acre grassland restoration project. Removal of invasives will include operating a weed whacker, using a variety of hand tools including a bow saw for invasive vine removal and installing tarps for solarization.  Other duties will involve conducting vegetation transects, photo point monitoring, maintaining detailed field notes, analyzing data and writing a final project report. In addition, the intern will census the Baltimore Checkerspot Butterfly population, educate and supervise volunteers.

We are looking for a highly motivated recent college graduate or current student in Environmental Sciences, Biology or a related field with interest in invasive plant management. This person should be able to work independently and be physically capable of performing manual labor during hot weather. Experience in identifying plants, birds, butterflies and conducting field sampling are preferred, but training will be provided for all aspects of the position. Know-how using excel spreadsheet and operating a GPS device are important.  The individual should have good communication skills and work well with volunteers. The most important qualifications are a strong work ethic, positive attitude to problem solving and desire to learn.
