The Land Alliance’s William C. and Joyce C. O’Neil Conservation Steward program delivers valuable conservation-related experiences to qualified college students interested in building a career in the protection of our natural resources.
Working with Darcy McDowell, the Associate Director of Stewardship, interns will be responsible for:
- Monitoring and removal of invasive plants
- Maintaining plantings as part of habitat restoration projects
- Trail maintenance and trail building
- Monitoring flora and fauna within the preserves owned by the land alliance.
- Leading educational nature walks and program
- Working with volunteers and staff in preserve management project
Required Competencies:
- Commitment to environmental conservation
- Comfortable being outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Comfortable working both independently and with a team
- Research, communication and writing skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- The ability to get to and between job sites is a must!
Preferred Competencies:
- Ability to identify local flora/fauna species
- Experience with gardening/plant care
- Experience managing invasive plants
- Interest/Experience leading educational programs
Start Date: End of May/Beginning of June
Hours: 32 hours per week/ 10-11 weeks
Pay: $17.90 an hour
