Anacostia Riverkeeper is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the Anacostia River through advocacy, enforcement, and community engagement to ensure a swimmable, fishable river for all. The Event & Membership Coordinator is a detail-oriented, personable team player who thrives on connecting with people and getting things done. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys being at the center of community engagement: building relationships with members, donors, and partners while ensuring no detail slips through the cracks. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and responsive, able to juggle multiple priorities while maintaining a warm and professional presence. They take pride in both the behind-the-scenes logistics and the public-facing interactions that keep our programs and events running smoothly.
Duties are as follows:
- Event Logistics- This role leads the planning and execution of engaging, mission-driven events, including regular member meetings and public educational events, coordinating capacity-building workshops for partner river nonprofits, and serving as a key collaborator in annual larger public-facing and fundraising events.
- Boat Tour/Outreach Scheduling- This role manages our public-facing inbox, serving as the first point of contact for private event requests, questions about the river, partnership and outreach inquiries, and other community communications, ensuring timely, thoughtful responses and appropriate prioritization.
- Donation/ Membership Management- This role oversees donation management, including maintaining accurate records of incoming contributions from multiple sources, sending timely and thoughtful acknowledgment letters, researching and cultivating larger donors, and developing newsletters and other stewardship communications.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience managing inboxes and prioritizing multiple requests
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with members, donors, and community partners
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace
- Ability to work evenings and weekends for events
Preferred:
- Familiarity with nonprofit fundraising best practices
- Experience coordinating outdoor or community-based events
- Passion for environmental advocacy, water quality, or community engagement
- Experience with Constant Contact, Airtable, Canva, and other specialized technology tools.
- Spanish language proficiency
