ZRG Aspen Leadership Group is proud to partner with the Amargosa Conservancy in the search for an Executive Director.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will lead the organization through an important leadership transition while building upon more than two decades of conservation impact across the Amargosa Basin. The ED will provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership while serving as the organization's primary ambassador, relationship builder, and champion for its mission. The Executive Director will lead a talented staff team, cultivate strong partnerships, strengthen organizational sustainability, and represent the Conservancy with a wide range of constituents, including community members, Tribal Nations, government agencies, elected officials, conservation partners, funders, and supporters.

Working closely with an actively engaged Board of Directors and a highly capable staff, the Executive Director will oversee fundraising and revenue diversification, strategic planning, organizational development, communications, financial stewardship, and external relations. The role requires a collaborative leader who can navigate complexity, bring together diverse perspectives, and identify common ground among communities, conservation interests, Tribal Nations, resource management agencies, elected officials, and other stakeholders.

The Executive Director will play a central role in strengthening the Conservancy's long-term sustainability by deepening relationships with funders and supporters, broadening the organization's funding base, supporting a culture of staff development and collaboration, and helping guide strategic priorities for the future.

The Amargosa River is often described as a miracle of the desert. Flowing through one of the driest landscapes in North America, the river and its springs sustain an extraordinary network of wetlands, wildlife, cultures, and communities found nowhere else on Earth. From the headwaters near Beatty, Nevada, to the wetlands of Ash Meadows and the vast landscapes of Death Valley, the Amargosa Basin is a place where water gives life to people, culture, and biodiversity in remarkable and unexpected ways.

For more than 22 years, the Amargosa Conservancy has worked to protect the wilds, waters, and communities of the Amargosa Basin through science, stewardship, advocacy, and community engagement. Today, the Conservancy serves as a trusted voice for conservation and a respected partner to local communities, Tribal Nations, scientists, land managers, policymakers, and fellow conservation organizations working to safeguard the future of this remarkable place.

Today, the Amargosa Conservancy stands at an exciting moment in its history. With a dedicated staff, engaged board leadership, strong community partnerships, and growing regional influence, the organization is poised for its next chapter. The Conservancy is financially strong, with significant reserves and approximately two years of organizational runway, providing stability and flexibility as it looks to the future. The next Executive Director will have the opportunity not only to protect an extraordinary landscape, but also to build upon a foundation of conservation success, organizational strength, and community trust while helping shape the future of a region, its communities, and the life that depends upon it.

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least five years of progressive leadership experience is required. While experience in conservation, public lands, environmental advocacy, natural resources, Tribal engagement, rural communities, government relations, or related fields is beneficial, the Amargosa Conservancy places greater value on leadership, relationship-building, sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and a demonstrated commitment to the mission. The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $125,000 annually. The Amargosa Conservancy offers a stipend for health insurance and generous paid time off.
