About this Position

The External Affairs Coordinator plays a key role in programs in Southern California to affect public policy to further The Nature Conservancy’s mission. The External Affairs Coordinator serves as liaison and informational contact between the organization and business, private groups, state and/or local agencies.

The External Affairs Coordinator provides research and policy analysis in support of TNC’s priorities and tracks policies and decisions that directly affect conservation goals. The Coordinator builds and facilitates internal networks, public networks, coordinating meetings, agendas, and presentations. They assist in influencing the outcome of policy initiatives in Southern California. They develop strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, conservation organizations, and industry to advance the organization’s conservation agenda. 


  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive reporting structure.
  • Experience with legislative, planning, policy or corporate initiatives at two or more of the following levels: international, country, sub-national, or local.
  • Experience presenting to and communicating with government or corporate staff and/or program leadership.
  • Experience working with partners/government agencies and the corporate sector.
  • Strong writing skills to communicate effectively with internal and external audiences.
