About the Position

Southwest Conservation Corps is running a fire mitigation crew this fall for those identifying as a trans/cis woman, genderfluid, or non-binary individuals. Crew members will go through S-212 chainsaw training to work on fuels reduction and mitigation projects to help protect communities from the threat of forest fires. Crew members will also work towards completing coursing in basic wildlands fire behaviors, S-130 and S-190, necessary certifications to receive their red card for future fire deployment. This is great crew for those interested in learning more or those who want to pursue careers in wildland fire fighting!

Our affinity crews create an inclusive space for groups that have been under-represented to gain hands-on experience, technical skills training, and professional development. These crews foster a safer, more comfortable learning environment where participants can maximize their opportunities to grow and develop while gaining certifications to propel them into a career in environmental stewardship.

Projects include hazardous fuels reduction, corridor clearing, habitat restoration and fencing, re-vegetation and local environmental service projects. Crews may also complete technical and/or specialized projects depending on project partner needs, including disaster relief if the opportunity arises.

Schedules generally are 8-days on and 6 off. There is a possibility you could serve 5-days on and 2-days off, or a variation of schedules requiring all AmeriCorps crew members to show flexibility. SCC does not provide housing on your off days.
