Field Services Team Leader Job Description

Position Responsibilities
Performing forest and property management work in Northwest NJ as part of a 2-3 person crew. Tasks will include forest stewardship work such as tree cutting, herbicide applications, tree planting, trail construction, firewood cutting, equipment maintenance, etc.

Compensation

  • Commensurate with qualifications and experience ($22-$30 per hour)
  • Mileage reimbursement
  • 401k (after 6 months of employment)
  • Phone reimbursement (after 6 months of employment)
  • Paid Time Off (after 6 months of employment)
  • Skills training associated with job will be paid for by employer

Qualifications

Education

  • Associates / Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or similar field is preferred (not required)
  • Relevant experience in forestry or similar field is also preferred (not required)

Technical
Experience in working outside with hand tools, power tools (chainsaw), and compact forestry equipment is required. Experience working in a natural resource science is preferred (not required). Field work will require an ability to learn quickly and successfully implement a variety of tasks. The ability to learn and identify common tree and shrub species is required.

Personal
Preferred candidates will demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills, friendliness, flexibility, and an ability to learn new tasks quickly. Applicant must be service oriented, receptive to guidance and direction, and a have a strong desire for excellence in all aspects of the job. Applicant must be able and willing to lead others through example, instruction, and ongoing training. A willingness to be flexible is important due to unforeseen job parameters including weather.

Other Requirements
Applicant must be self-motivated and comfortable working alone at times, as well as working in difficult terrain and conditions (most days are spent outside in the forest). Work may require daily travel to job site or office (mileage reimbursement is provided); transportation is required. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required. All necessary tools will be provided. Applicant must be physically fit and able to carry up to 40 pounds. Must be able to operate equipment safely and responsibly. Prior to any job offer, applicant will need to provide at least 3 references and complete a background check.
