WORK SCHEDULE: Up to 40 hours per week for 6 to 8 weeks

SALARY RANGE: $15-18/hour, DOE; no benefits, employment is at-will

Description

The Nez Perce Soil and Water Conservation District (District) is based in Culdesac, Idaho with work locations throughout Nez Perce County and surrounding areas. The field technician 1 position is a temporary, seasonal position without benefits. Employment dates are beginning to mid-May 2025 to August 2025, hours are up to 40 per week.  Start and end dates will be negotiated with successful applicants. 

Work hours (start times, hours per day, day per week worked) will vary from week to week and are based on team needs, air temperature restrictions, weather, and work load. This means that no set schedule is determined; employee is irregularly scheduled to work.

Assignments are related to outdoor work including but not limited to, weed control, weed eating, mowing, plant nursery maintenance, and watering plants through irrigation systems. Pre-employment skills testing and evaluation may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate one-on-one and in a group setting. Strong communication skills are required to develop rapport with team members. Ability to perform in a strong team environment is required.
  • Ability to walk over rough terrain in inclement weather packing up to 50 pounds. The majority of work tasks are performed outdoors. This requires the ability to daily work outdoors, in inclement weather, on rough terrain and packing field equipment.
  • Ability to take field notes in a neat, legible manner
  • Ability to meet deadlines and attend work as scheduled
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures
  • Ability to operate weed control equipment including but not limited to shovels, hoe-dads, weed eaters, back pack sprayers and mowing equipment.
  • Ability to operate and maintain irrigation systems including, but not limited to water pumps, sprinklers, hoses, drip lines, and fill water tanks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two seasons of field experience.
  • Data collection experience.
  • Experience in working in a team environment.
  • Plant and weed identification skills.
  • U.S. Driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
  • Ability to operate ATV, 4 wheel drive vehicles with manual transmissions, and tow trailers
