About the position

The Idaho Dept. of Fish and Game Panhandle Region is seeking one Fisheries Biological Aide position ($15/hr) to assist in conducting fisheries management activities in northern Idaho. The panhandle region of Idaho encompasses numerous large natural lakes, beautiful free flowing rivers, and incredible recreational access and opportunities. Incumbent will gain a variety of experience surveying fish populations across the region as part of regional fisheries management crew. Local housing opportunities may be available for this position located at Farragut State Park.

General InformationIncumbent will work 40(+) hours per week. Work hours may vary depending on project needs. Some night work required. Work shifts will generally be Monday through Friday. Periodic weekend shifts may be required.

With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbent must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, handle live and dead fish, hike long distances in rough terrain while carrying a 40-50 lb. pack, stand/work in cold water for up to 10 hours per day, work underwater using snorkeling equipment, and lift/carry equipment up to 60 lbs. Incumbent must also be willing and able to interact with angling public on a regular basis.

Required Qualifications:

1. Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
2. Ability to interact with the public in a professional manner.
3. Some knowledge of life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species.
4. Valid driver's license.

Desired Qualifications:

1. Some college or upper-level coursework in Fisheries or related field, or equivalent experience and training.
2. Some experience operating boats.
3. Some experience collecting biological data in a field environment.
ResponsibilitiesDuties may include assisting a small crew conducting angler surveys, sampling fish using electrofishing equipment and nets, conducting snorkel surveys, tagging fish, operation and basic maintenance of department trucks, boats, and other sampling equipment, data entry, and various lab analysis tasks.
