JOB DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, this position will serve as the assistant aquarium manager, Go Fish animal care team member, and Go Fish intern / volunteer coordinator. This position will assist with managing 170,000 gallons of aquarium exhibits, which includes but is not limited to animal husbandry, aquarium maintenance and diving, water quality analysis, and monitoring and maintenance of life support systems. The position will also provide support for public education and other programs center-wide and will assist in the coordination and management of warm-water fish culture in both recirculation systems and ponds. In addition, this position will assist with the administering purchasing, budgeting, inventory control, and report preparations associated with state and federally -funded projects to comply with laws, rules, and contractual agreements – overseeing the procurement of materials and supplies for live exhibit operations. Work will include weekend and holiday hours and may assist with Department’s emergency response efforts. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
NRP070 – Fisheries Biologist 1
Bachelor’s degree in biology or closely related field from an accredited college or university.

NRP071 – Fisheries Biologist 2
Master’s degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university 
AND 
One year of related experience. 
OR
One year of experience required at the lower level Fisheries Biologist 1, (NRP070) or position equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference may be given to applicants with:

• Knowledge of and experience with life support systems for large aquatic exhibits (Ozone systems and large filtration systems)
• Open water dive certification
• Experience with warm-water hatchery operations and recirculating aquaculture systems
• Experience in identifying and treating fish diseases and parasites
• Experience supervising staff, interns, and/or volunteers
• DNR/WRD employment experience
