The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, Springfield Office is seeking to hire two fisheries field technicians for the 2026 field season, from May 26 to October 9.  

Several projects will occur this field season including but not limited to nighttime boat electrofishing surveys, sea lamprey spawning surveys, eDNA collections, trout population surveys, and stream habitat surveys.  

Duties: Assists with field and lab work for multiple fisheries projects as part of a team and independently; adheres to established field and lab protocols; repairs and maintains field and lab equipment; conducts data entry and QAQC.  

Work will occur at the Springfield Regional office or in the field. Field work can be physically demanding, including carrying heavy equipment over rough terrain and/or moving water for long periods of time. Work may be done in adverse weather conditions including heat and humidity. Variable hours for surveys will include evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays sometimes on short notice. Employees are limited to 40 hours/week. Sick leave is provided. Holiday pay is not provided.  

Qualifications: Minimum of 60 college credits in a natural resource-related field. Related professional work may substitute for college experience. A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to lift at least 50lbs is required. Boating and trailering experience preferred. 

Salary: $19.87/hr (Pay Grade 17, Step 1)
