Do you want to spend your days immersed in beautiful, remote landscapes, making a real impact on conservation? Turner Natural Resources (TNR) is looking for a passionate and driven Fisheries Technician to join our mission of restoring imperiled species and habitats across the American West.

Turner Natural Resources is seeking a motivated Fisheries Technician to support a wide range of field-based conservation projects focused on aquatic ecosystems and native species restoration. Based in Bozeman, Montana, this position plays a vital role in conducting aquatic organism surveys, restoring riparian habitats, and assisting with ecological management across Turner properties. The role requires extended travel to field sites in states such as New Mexico, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Kansas, typically for periods not exceeding two weeks.

ABOUT THE POSITION
As a Fisheries Technician, you'll be at the heart of our fieldwork — applying and learning hands-on skills to support native aquatic species and ecosystems. Whether you're electrofishing in a mountain stream, planting willows along a riparian corridor, or building in-stream habitat structures, you’ll be contributing to meaningful conservation outcomes.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Assisting with aquatic organism surveys and population monitoring in ponds and streams using techniques such as:
  • Backpack and barge electrofishing
  • Gill, fyke, and trap netting
  • Hook and line sampling
  • Supporting the application of piscicides for native species restoration.
  • Building in-stream habitat structures and participate in riparian restoration, including willow planting.
  • Collecting detailed field data and maintaining accurate records throughout all project work.
  • Traveling long distances (up to 8+ hours) to remote field locations and camp on-site as needed (gear provided).
  • Driving and navigating a ½-ton pickup truck in both urban and off-road environments.
  • Safely operating and maintaining field vehicles, ATVs, UTVs, and a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Participating in regular safety briefings and adhering to safety protocols in all work settings.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned to support aquatic management and conservation objectives.

  • A management position.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • Currently enrolled in or a graduate of an undergraduate or graduate program in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Management, or a closely related field.

  • Comfortable using basic hand tools in a field setting.
  • Familiarity with GPS devices and mapping software (such as ArcGIS or similar platforms) is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on vehicles and equipment is highly desirable.
  • Must demonstrate a strong willingness and ability to learn new skills in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • This position requires operation of vehicles, and you’ll need to possess a valid driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.  Your driving record will need to meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company’s insurance provider.
