Description: The Montana Cooperative Fishery Unit and Department of Ecology at Montana State University are hiring one fisheries technician to assist with acoustic tracking of Yellowstone cutthroat trout in Yellowstone National Park. Candidates should be prepared for workdays spent entirely on a boat. This is a full-time job with 40 hours per week from May to October. Housing is provided. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis, and the position will be open until filled.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in fisheries conservation and management. This position involves handling and collecting data from Yellowstone cutthroat trout in Yellowstone Lake. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with surgeries on Yellowstone cutthroat trout
- Manual tracking of Yellowstone cutthroat trout from a boat using acoustic telemetry
- Entering and proofing data
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating boats
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
- Experience working as part of a team and independently
- Experience using personal computers and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) to enter data
- Department of Interior Motorboat Operator Certification Course (MOCC)
Qualifications
- Must have completed or be working towards a bachelor’s degree in fisheries or a related field.
- Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license
