Weyerhaeuser owns and manages approximately 13 million acres of commercial timberlands in the U.S., including a southern ownership that extends from the east coast of North Carolina and Florida to eastern Oklahoma.  Weyerhaeuser is committed to sustainable forest management that includes protecting aquatic resources and all ownership is certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).

Weyerhaeuser has an opening for a forester in our West Virginia Timberlands Region reporting to the Lewisburg office.  This is a full-time, exempt position, with salary level dependent on skills and experience.  The primary function of this role would be to manage our veneer operations with focus on product merchandizing and evaluation of veneer logs. Other roles include working with our results-focused Timberlands Team on all aspects of our forestry business including safety, operational excellence, land management, and environmental compliance.   

Key Functions

  • Participate in the planning and preparation of timber sales including harvest area identification, sale set-up and boundary layout, and layout and construction of logging roads.
  • Logging contract administration
  • Planning and scheduling of veneer logs from harvest units to yard on a weekly basis that requires high level of communication with loader truck operators
  • Good working knowledge of hardwood species, grades, and scale
  • Supervising veneer yard operations on a weekly basis
  • Strong advocate for safety within the team and throughout the operation
  • Ability to operate a chainsaw to periodically assist in veneer log preparation
  • Interact with the customers, public, government agencies, and other industry professionals

NOTE: This position is about 75% field time and necessitates working in all types of weather conditions and terrain.

Qualifications - External

  • Bachelor's Degree in Forestry or related field desired
  • At least 2 years of forestry experience is required
  • Demonstrated experience in timber sale setup, managing logging contracts, and log merchandising preferred
  • Able to develop, plan, prioritize and manage activities to meet deadlines and targets
  • Strong communication skills
  • Team player with ability to work effectively with people of varying backgrounds
  • Computer proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
