Jefferson Resource Company (JRC) is a full-service natural resource consulting firm with several office locations in California. We are currently considering applicants for several Forester I, II, and III positions based in Mount Shasta, Redding, and Diamond Springs, California.
Salary and Benefits : These are non-exempt positions with pay ranging from $16-22/hr for Forester I, $20-28/hr for Forester II and $25-35/hr for Forester III. Pay is based on education, experience and qualifications. Travel on the job is paid both ways, overtime is paid per State and Federal law. Set per-diem rates for out of town work. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 10 holidays, vacation, and 401k. We offer a 4% employer match to regular full-time employees.
Travel: Must have personal transportation to and from assigned office. Out of town work involving overnight stays is common. Work is typically scheduled Monday through Friday, with weekends off.
Minimum Qualifications: Forester I is an entry level position, applicants will understand how to work in a professional setting with proper decorum, have a a high degree of self-motivation, good organizational and decision-making skills and a positive attitude . Applicants must have the ability to work safely and effectively in rugged terrain under adverse weather conditions and sometimes alone. Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hiring, possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Forester II requires same as Forester I plus a minimum of two seasons of applicable experience. Forester III consideration requires qualifying to take the CA Registered Professional Forester examination within one year of hiring.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities involve assisting one of our many California Registered Professional Foresters with environmental compliance, permit preparation, timber sale preparation and administration and/or reforestation. This will include timber marking, timber inventory, sale layout and possibly supervision of subcontractors. Employees may be presented with opportunities to assist our professional staff with other duties including reforestation, raptor surveys, vegetation (botanical) surveys, hazard tree inventories and sale administration.
Physical Demands: applicants must possess sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment in adverse terrain, in all weather conditions for at least 10 hours per day and more when required; to walk, stand, sit, and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive movements; to carry, push and/or pull moderate weight (generally 5 to 30 lbs); to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; to verbally communicate to exchange information readily and clearly with team members and public; ability to see and hear in normal range with or without correction.
