American Forest Management, Inc. (AFM) is seeking a motivated Forester I or Forester II to join our Lufkin, Texas office. The position level will be determined based on the selected candidate’s education, experience, and demonstrated capabilities.
Reporting directly to the District Manager, this role supports comprehensive forest management activities including planning, permitting, timber harvest operations, road construction, silviculture, client reporting, and budgeting. This position offers hands-on responsibility, autonomy in the field, and the opportunity to grow within a nationally recognized forestry consulting firm.

With 50 regionally based offices managing almost 6 million acres, AFM offers strong local expertise, while its national platform supports collaboration among multidisciplinary teams of foresters and technical specialists to manage large and complex land projects.
AFM’s services include land and wildlife management; land sales and acquisitions; forest inventory, planning, and design; growth and yield modeling; cash-flow projections; environmental and farmland services; appraisal; forest resource data management; and harvest scheduling.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all aspects of fieldwork, office work, analysis, and reporting to landowners and clients
- Plan and oversee silviculture and reforestation activities, including contract administration
- Design harvest unit layouts and obtain required permits
- Oversee road construction and maintenance, including permitting and contract administration
- Assist with budget development, tracking, and reporting
- Utilize GIS tools for property management and analysis
- Operate in compliance with Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) objectives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications – Forester I
- Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or related field OR Associate’s Degree in Forestry with 2+ years of experience
- Entry-level to early-career forestry experience
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently in demanding field conditions
- Valid driver’s license
- Preferred experience with ArcGIS and Microsoft Office
Qualifications – Forester II
- Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or related field
- Typically 3–5+ years of professional forestry experience
- Ability to independently manage harvest operations, silviculture, and client reporting
- Strong working knowledge of GIS, budgeting, and contract administration
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
