Job Description and Duties:

The reporting location for this position is the San Diego Coast District Office, located at 4477 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92110. This position will report to the District Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) and works under the direction of the District Environmental Scientist.

The Forestry Aide will perform various natural resource management and protection activities. Typical duties will consist of invasive plant removal by manual, mechanical or chemical methods, thinning of native vegetation for fuel modification projects, environmental monitoring, habitat restoration, and documenting work. The incumbent will collect and analyze data using Esri Field Maps, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and Microsoft Excel. The incumbent will work with the public and volunteer groups as a State Park representative. The selected candidate will be flexible, able to reason logically to draw sound conclusions, follow directions well, and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships. This position may perform repetitive movements and heavy physical labor related to resource tasks including lifting and carrying up to 45 lbs.

The incumbent’s work schedule will be Monday through Thursday, 7:30am to 4:00pm. Occasional weekend work may be required and the incumbent must be willing to adjust workdays as needed. This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation 265.1. This position is designated as not telework eligible. This position is dependent on the availability of funding, which is currently secure through June 30, 2026.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
