Job Responsibilities

Work as part of a team to restore native forests, prairies, and wetlands in the northern Willamette valley through scientifically tested ecological restoration practices while integrating environmental stewardship and social responsibility into our operations. The job consists of difficult manual labor outdoors during all kinds of weather. Requires heavy lifting and long work days. Specific job duties include:

• Maintaining and adding to a positive team environment.
• Following instructions and working productively with a team of diverse individuals.
• Identifying common native and non-native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous species as well as their preferred habitats.
• Maintain accurate reports of chemical use. 
• Implement and monitor reforestation, erosion control, and habitat conservation initiatives.
• Removing brush, trees, and weedy vines from restoration sites by using chainsaws, brush cutters and mowers.
• Participate in training programs related to ecological restoration,  responsible forestry practices, health & safety,  stakeholder engagement, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
• Contribute 8 hours of community service at a local organization focused on social responsibility or environmental stewardship.   
• Understand the environmental  and social impacts of our work; biodiversity, soil erosion, water quality, carbon storage, recreational usage and cultural value. 
• Regularly conducting careful herbicide application to invasive species.  
• Maintaining restoration sites by using hand and power tools.
• Planting bare-root and containerized plants, trees, shrubs, plugs and bulbs.
• Making and installing live stake cuttings.
• Collecting and sowing native plant seed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills Requirements

• Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Community engagement and cultural sensitivity.
• Knowledge of native and non-native plant species.
• Ability to apply herbicide and maintain an IST license.
• Ability to regularly perform up to 10 hours of physically demanding and strenuous work per day.
• Ability to work off trail, on steep and variable terrain.
• Excellent spatial awareness, and the ability to read maps and be aware of one's location.
• Ability to take direction from supervisors.
• Ability to make independent, well-reasoned decisions while knowing when to ask for instruction.
• Knowledge of the principles of operating and maintaining gas powered tools.
• Utilize common sense to independently solve problems.
• Teamwork and cross-functional collaboration.
• Proficiency with speaking, reading, and writing in English.

Schedule and Benefits (these benefits come into effect after completion of a 3 month probationary period)

• Work week: 40 hours per week (Scheduling to be determined based on weather and work needs). Overtime will be regularly required in order to complete record keeping and driving responsibilities. 
• This is a year round position. 
• $22.50 - $23.50 per hour (DOE).
• Simple IRA upon eligibility. Up to 3% total wage match. 
• An annual $250 raingear stipend.  
• Comprehensive dental and health coverage with 80% employer contribution. 
• 8 hours annually for community service.
• 8 hours of professional development hours per year with an allowance of $100 on your first year. 
• Paid Time Off: 80 hours per calendar year. 
• 6 paid holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day).  

Position Breakdown

• 95% Field work as Crew Member.
• 5% Monitoring, data keeping, mapping, and other technical duties related to client’s projects or business management.
