A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities requiring certification of compliance with environmental regulations as well as collecting data for use by Federal, State, Municipal, and other government agencies along the US coastline.

AIS is looking for a temporary, full-time Forestry Technician to support Washington’s Department of Natural Resources Silviculture program. The position is contingent upon AIS being awarded the contract.

Primary Function:

The Forestry Technician will be responsible for safely traveling to and locating harvest units that need to be sampled in the Western Washington area (Bellingham, WA to Mineral, WA). This will require travel on remote forest roads and hiking through wooded terrain to access the sample plots. Technicians will be responsible for setting center stakes and flagging each plot across 800 acres. All flagged plots must be sampled at a determined schedule based on local district tree planting effort. Tree seedlings within the sample plots will be identified, assessed for damage, measured, and tallied within 14 days of replanting effort. All data will be recorded and submitted via provided software and tablets.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Travel to previously forested areas on remote forest roads safely.
  • Locating, flagging, and staking seedling plots in reforested areas.
  • Measure, assess for damage, tally, and identify tree seedlings.
  • Utilize tablets and software to record and submit data.

Compensation: Candidates will be paid an hourly rate to be negotiated, and total compensation will vary depending on candidates’ depth of experience. This is a full–time, temporary position. AIS benefits package includes health and dental insurance, vacation, sick and holiday benefits.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Biology, or another natural science
  • Experience identifying tree seedlings
  • Experience collecting data in the field
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and navigate through wooded terrain
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and Word
  • Ablity to work independently, as well as, on a team
  • Have strong organizational and communication skills
  • Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to work on short notice
  • Good interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience collecting tree seedling data

Travel:

  • You will be expected to Travel up to 100% of your time visiting forestry harvest units in the Western Washington area (Bellingham, WA to Mineral, WA)

Locations:

  • Greater Seattle area.
