The Resource Assistants Program seeks to engage ethnically and racially diverse young professionals in natural resource careers. You must be:

Position Description: 

The Grants Management Resource Assistant will be a member of a committed Regional team that supports the development of grants and partnership agreements across 17 national forests, 10 regional staff areas in Oregon and Washington, and certain programs in Alaska. Through this assistantship, the chosen candidate will receive training and on-the-job experience to meet the qualifications for a variety of administrative or business services positions upon completing all RAP requirements. Additionally, they will  learn about the diverse ways the Forest Service collaborates with communities and organizations through grants or agreements, and gain insight into the technical  nuances of codifying these relationships under the close mentorship of permanent staff members.


  • Supports the development and updating of various documents, job aids, digital content, training modules, and other resources aimed at facilitating the grants and agreements process for agency staff and partners. 
  • Contribute to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion by ensuring the agency's Equity Action Plan guides our approach to work.
  • Performs duties of varying complexity related to the award of grants and agreements. Responsibilities include monitoring, reviewing, and tracking all grant and agreement actions such as reports, payments, closeouts, and required documentation. 
  • Collects and inputs a variety of data into the grants and agreements information system, maintaining logs, and distributing grant/agreement applications/proposals.
  • Reviews grant/agreement proposals/applications to ensure basic compliance with program guidelines.
  • Applies knowledge of grant and agreement policies and procedures in preparing the grant/agreement files, develops folders, and files all pertinent information from initial receipt to closeout.
  • Manages records in accordance with federal record retention requirements. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 


Major studies relevant to this position: Business, Public Admin/Policy or Enviromental Science, or related fields. While there are no specific degree requirements, successful candidates typically exhibit curiosity, dedication to learning, flexibility, and a team-oriented mindset.
