Company: National Bobwhite and Grassland Initiative Foundation (NBGIF)
Employment Type: Full-Time
About Us:
The National Bobwhite and Grassland Initiative Foundation (NBGIF) exists to restore and maintain wild bobwhite quail, associated species, and their native habitats through science-based research and management to support healthy wildlife, soil, air, and water for the benefit of society.
About the Role:
The NBGIF is a leader in collaborative habitat restoration, working across states and partners to deliver measurable conservation outcomes on working lands.
We are seeking a Grants and Compliance Accountant to support the financial management and oversight of federal and state-funded conservation programs. This role is ideal for someone who brings strong accounting fundamentals, experience with grant compliance, and the ability to operate effectively in a growing organization where systems and processes continue to evolve.
You will play a central role in ensuring financial accuracy, maintaining audit-ready records, and supporting the responsible stewardship of public conservation funding.
Key Responsibilities:
• Grants & Contracts Compliance: Track, monitor, and reconcile expenditures across specific federal grants and state contracts. Ensure all financial activity aligns with grant requirements, organizational budgets, and applicable regulations.
• Accounting Functions: Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including invoicing, payments, expense allocation, and receipts, with a high level of accuracy and consistency.
• Financial Reporting and Systems: Maintain clean, audit-ready financial records within the accounting platform. Generate project-specific financial reports to support internal decision-making and external reporting.
• Cross-Functional Support: Provide coordination support for payroll processing, onboarding compliance, and related administrative functions as needed.
• Process Evolution: Collaborate across departments to identify inefficiencies and support the ongoing development of financial systems and workflows.

• Administrative Support: Oversee diverse administrative and clerical tasks that contribute to overall organizational compliance and operational effectiveness.
What You Bring:
• Experience: 3–5 years in mid-level accounting, fund accounting, or project-based financial management. Experience with federal grants, state contracts, or restricted fund compliance is strongly preferred.
• Attention to Detail: Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy across complex financial data, particularly in relation to grant requirements and reporting standards.
• Initiative and Adaptability: Proven ability to take ownership of work, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively in an environment where processes are continually improving, with minimal supervision.
• Communication and Organization: Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate clearly across teams, supporting both financial accuracy and user-friendly systems.

• Mission-Driven Impact: Your work directly supports large-scale habitat restoration efforts benefiting wildlife, working lands, and rural communities.
• Professional Growth: We are committed to building internal capacity and supporting employee development as the organization grows.
