Through education and outreach initiatives, we empower individuals and communities to become advocates for wild horse conservation. By fostering a deeper understanding of the issues facing wild horses and their habitats, we cultivate a network of passionate supporters dedicated to our cause.

The Role

American Wild Horse Conservation is seeking a dynamic community leader who will enhance grassroots engagement and campaign efforts in support of in-the-wild conservation of wild horses and burros.

The AWHC Grassroots Campaigns & Advocacy Manager will be responsible for expanding grassroots outreach, coalition-building and volunteer advocacy activities to advance wild horse and burro protection and pursue federal reform.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute grassroots engagement in support of AWHC mission, working in collaboration with AWHC policy, conservation and advocacy teams. 
  • Develop the scale and impact of AWHC advocacy movement, growing the number of advocates and maximizing their combined strength as a volunteer community. 
  • Arrange in-district constituent meetings with legislators and organize advocates to participate in Lobby Day.
  • Train advocates on effective communications with elected officials and local media
  • Create grassroots resources and maintain web and advocacy training materials
  • Build relationships and coalitions with advocates and ally groups. 
  • Stay up-to-date and utilize the best national grassroots advocacy practices, as applicable.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for staff, AWHC Board of Directors and donors.
  • Coordinate with AWHC departments to ensure grassroots integration with organizational priorities.

Requirements:

  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, multi-task, manage time, and address time-sensitive projects in a professional and responsible manner.
  • Commitment to equine protection and intense drive to create positive change for animals.
  • Prior experience with advocacy, grassroots organizing, or political campaigns.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills, including the ability to communicate and work well with others remotely via phone, video conferencing, etc.
  • Familiarity with grassroots organizing strategies and willingness to stay up-to-date on the latest, most effective practices in the advocacy field.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Displays enthusiasm for teamwork and high levels of energy and tenacity. 
  • Highly organized with acute attention to detail.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally when needed.
  • Knowledge of federal and / or state legislative processes is a plus.
