Position Summary: Rocky Mountain National Park is recruiting for 1 Greenhouse Aide AmeriCorps member (age 18 to 30) to perform as a horticulture aide for the National Park Service. The position will be located at the park’s greenhouse facility near the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, Estes Park, CO from March through September 2026. The aide will support the park’s Native Vegetation Restoration Plan by growing, collecting, and maintaining native plant material to be used for 2026 & 2027 ecological restoration projects. The greenhouse facility typically produces 30,000 – 65,000 plants each spring. An outdoor nursery facility surrounds the greenhouse and has the capacity for over 100,000 plants.
Position Duties: Individuals with excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and attention to detail are encouraged to apply. The AmeriCorps member will guide groups of volunteers and must be self-motivated and able to work independently, often performing repetitive tasks. Under the supervision of the greenhouse manager or other park staff, the AmeriCorps member will germinate, propagate, transplant, and care for native plants. Other duties will include plant identification, seed collection, seed cleaning and scarification, greenhouse maintenance, troubleshooting irrigation systems, fertilization, weeding, pest management, record keeping, and volunteer communications and organizing. The aide will maintain plant material both inside the greenhouse and adjoining outside nursery as well as a remote seed increase field and satellite nursery. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel and have prior greenhouse or horticulture experience or education. This position is labor intensive. Tasks will involve standing, sitting, bending, and/or hiking for long periods of time. Heavy repetitive tasks such as moving large potted plants and lifting/carrying buckets of soil, mulch, and seed upwards of 50 lbs. should be expected on a daily basis.
This position will use pesticides. The Greenhouse Aide is expected to learn and safely apply insecticides and herbicides.
Position Details: This is an AmeriCorps position that will serve 40 hours per week. The incumbent must possess a valid state driver’s license. Optional Park housing will be provided at no cost to the AmeriCorps member, which is a dorm within walking distance of the greenhouse facility. The position is a 30-week term with a living stipend of $500 per week plus an AmeriCorps Education Award upon completion of the term. Approximate dates of service are Monday, March 2nd, through Thursday, September 24th, 2026. A background check will be necessary for the selected candidate which can take 4-6 weeks to clear.
Work Schedule:
March 2 – April 17: Monday through Friday, 7:00AM to 3:30PM.
April 20 – September 24: Monday through Thursday, 7:00AM to 5:30PM.
