Watershed Progressive (WP) is seeking a passionate Native Plant Nursery Manager to oversee our propagation yard and retail nursery operations in Groveland, CA. If you thrive outdoors all day, love diving deep into native plants, and enjoy managing inventory from seed to sale, this role is for you! You'll handle propagation, plant care, customer service, and project support while contributing to our mission of regenerative water management and resilient ecosystems. Occasional assistance (2-3 times/month) with our landscaping crew on local projects is required, so physical fitness is key.

General Job Duties: Propagation & Plant Management:

  • Manage growing hardy native landscape plants (trees, shrubs, perennials) for yards, reforestation, and ecological projects.
  • Perform daily plant maintenance: planting, pruning, potting, watering, staking, cuttings, seed collection/processing, weed control, and irrigation.
  • Log activities, maintain detailed propagation records, and compile periodic reports using Excel.

Nursery & Inventory Operations:

  • Oversee day-to-day retail nursery care, yard maintenance, and customer assistance/advice on native plant purchases.
  • Manage inventory: Track stock levels, order plants/supplies for the nursery and project needs (e.g., sourcing natives for bioswales, rain gardens, low-water landscapes).
  • Create invoices, process orders, and handle basic administrative tasks proficiently using Excel (e.g., spreadsheets for tracking, reporting, and budgeting).
  • Advise on restocking needs, ensuring alignment with organic/best practices for native species.

Qualifications:

  • Detailed knowledge of California native plants (e.g., identification, propagation, ecology, suitability for water-wise/regenerative designs like greywater reuse, stormwater management).
  • Strong inventory management skills, including ordering for retail and projects.
  • Proficiency in creating invoices and using Excel for tracking, reporting, and data management.
  • Willingness to research/adapt organic horticultural best practices.
  • Physically able: Withstand high heat, fast-paced repetitive work, good agility, safely lift 50 pounds, and assist the landscaping crew occasionally.
  • Productive, self-motivated, and strong communicator.
  • Passion for global impact through local ecological work and team collaboration.

Education & Experience:

  • Formal horticultural education (e.g., certificate/degree in horticulture, botany, or related).
  • Hands-on experience in plant propagation, nursery management, and retail sales.
  • Familiarity with native plant ecosystems in Central California (preferred).
