GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is hiring a Habitat and Access Technician for a six-month appointment.
This position performs a variety of land management practices associated with the development and maintenance of Wildlife Habitat Management Areas (WHMAs) and Public Access Areas (PAAs). The position will be located in Laramie, Wyoming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
- Performing irrigation maintenance – Pivot, flood, and gated pipe systems
- Construction, converting, and maintaining wildlife and stock fencing
- Operating, transporting, and maintaining of heavy equipment (backhoes, loaders, skid steers, and tractors up to 175hp)
- Conducting farming task such as plowing, discing, drilling, mowing
- Operating and maintaining ATVs/UTVs
- Identifying and controlling noxious weeds
- Managing wetlands and conducting habitat manipulations and enhancements including sagebrush thinning, conifer removal, BDA installation, spring developments, and stream restorations
- Supporting Department priorities such as Mule Deer initiative projects
- Maintaining Wildlife Habitat Management Areas (WHMAs) and Public Access Areas (PAAs), including roads, parking areas, boat ramps, docks, and general public access infrastructure
- Collecting and analyzing soil and hydrologic conditions data
- Operating hand tools, power tools, 4x4 pickups, and trailers
- Providing outreach and assistance to the public and key stakeholders
Qualifications
PREFERENCES/**AGENCYREQUIREMENTS:
Preference may be given to those with a farm or ranch background or experience related to range management, fish and wildlife resource management, habitat development, or college coursework toward a degree in range, fish, or wildlife management.
**Must have a valid driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Practical knowledge and experience in farming, fencing, and irrigation
- Familiarity with wildlife, range, wetland, and habitat management
- Safe operation of trucks, trailers, tractors, UTV’s, and a variety of tools and heavy equipment
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to organize, plan, prioritize, and manage time effectively
- Ability to work independently with good judgment
- Knowledge of construction principles and basic carpentry
- Understanding of safety protocols and safe work practices
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Weekend work will occasionally be necessary
- Work often occurs in remote locations across the state
- Extended travel and overnight stays in remote locations may be required
- Must be able to lift 50 LBS
- Work is conducted outdoors in all weather conditions

- FLSA: Non-Exempt

- Position will be located in Laramie (7/16/2025 thru 11/30/2025).
