Short Job Description

The successful applicant to this position will work on the maintenance and improvement of the facilities on Northern Region Wildlife Management Areas (WMA)’s.

Job Duties Successful applicant will:

  • Operate and maintain equipment
  • Aid in monitoring public use on the WMA’s
  • Remove old fencing and replace it with new fencing
  • Spray for noxious weeds and upgrade/replace WMA signage
  • Maintain WMA grounds and facilities as directed
  • Perform other duties as assigned  
  • Assist wildlife, aquatics, waterfowl sections with various projects
  • Assist habitat biologists with restoration and planting projects

Job Requirements and Skills

  • Interest in or working toward a degree in natural resources (i.e. biology, zoology, wildlife management), agriculture, or a related field.
  • Experience weed/plant identification is preferred
  • Risks that require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, and/or hazardous chemicals, etc.  
  • Identify various wildlife, domestic animals, and/or plant species, seeds, or grain.
  • Maintain and/or repair tools and equipment.  
  • Ability to work independently.  
  • Follow written and/or oral instructions, applicable laws, rules, regulations, and/or policies and procedures.  

Other Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, and lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time. Incumbent must be able to work in extreme and adverse weather conditions (heat, wind, snow, ice, rain, etc.) , work on farm equipment and perform mechanical maintenance, work in cold water, on slippery surfaces, and in cramped areas, and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
