We have an opening for a Harvesting Forester in our Lewisburg, West Virginia Office. This is a full-time, regular position, with highly competitive salary dependent on skills and experience. This position reports to the Region Harvesting and Silviculture Supervisor. In the Harvesting Forester position, you will be responsible for working with our Timberlands Team on all aspects of our forestry business with an emphasis on harvest contract administration, rate negotiations, relationship building with contractors and external customers and GIS updates.

Key Functions
Work closely with the West Virginia team to execute harvests that maximizes the highest value to the company and contractor. Work with harvesting contractors to increase productivity, understand what drives costs and utilize this to improve operations.

This will include:

  • Willingness and ability to role model and promote a safe work environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of harvesting and transportation systems, costs structure and rate determination
  • Implement silvicultural regimes that maximize the value of current harvest and future value of stands
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, BMPs, and SFI principles.
  • Ability to negotiate logging and harvesting contracts with the aid of rate models and production numbers.
  • Interact with the public, government agencies and other industry professionals.
  • Strong advocate for safety within the team and throughout the operation.
  • Working in close cooperation with planning and silviculture forestry teams.
  • Ability to safely work in and around logging operations on uneven ground and during all weather conditions.

NOTE: This position is about 75% field time and necessitates working in all types of weather conditions and terrain.

Qualifications - External

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Forestry, Environmental Science or related field is required
  • 2 years of forestry experience is preferred.
  • Ability to administer contracts and ensure compliance with company, state and federal regulations
  • Demonstrated experience in timber harvesting, management, reforestation, and pre-commercial silviculture activities preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Computer proficiency in use of Arc GIS (FMS), Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Able to develop, plan, prioritize and manage activities to meet deadlines and targets
  • Team player with ability to work effectively with people of varying backgrounds
  • Build relationships with contractors and external customers
