Deadline Oct 31, 2023
Required Experience 2 - 6 years

Position Type: Flexible. Full-Time or Part-Time.

Location: Fully Remote, can be done from any location in Europe

We are hiring a skilled and dedicated Head of European Campaigns & Advocacy who can lead our political engagement with European governments. If you are looking for an exciting role helping scale a huge, ambitious campaign with significant political advocacy and campaign strategies, while working with a global team and network of people scaling demands for a fossil fuel free future - this position is for you.

The Head of European Campaigns & Advocacy will join the fast-growing International Support Team for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative. They will work closely with the Campaigns, Political, Partnerships and Communications teams as well as other regional campaign & advocacy leads to ensure that this global campaign scales significantly across Europe — with the ultimate goal of a number of European nation-states formally supporting the proposed Fossil Fuel Treaty.

Reaching this goal will require a skilled political strategist and campaigner who can help build a powerful advocacy effort in Europe alongside our global strategy. This will involve direct political engagement with policymakers, as well as coordination with our growing network of civil society organisations, high-profile individuals, youth activists, cities, subnational governments and ultimately nation-states working together to build momentum towards further political support of the Fossil Fuel Treaty proposal.

The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative welcomes and values diversity of people, cultural experiences and perspectives. We actively encourage applications from all corners of our global society.

The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative is a fiscally sponsored project of Earth Island Institute. As such, the Head of European Campaigns & Advocacy will be an employee of Earth Island Institute if based in the United States, and otherwise hired through a third-party employment platform, subject to employment standards at the Earth Island Institute.

Earth Island does not unlawfully discriminate against employees or applicants because of race, color, religion, religious creed, sex (including pregnancy, breastfeeding, childbirth, or related medical conditions), national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, military and veteran status, or any other basis protected by state or federal laws, local law, or ordinance.

The salary range for this role, inclusive of mandated employer pensions, is $50,000 - $65,000 USD. Salary is paid in local currency, and set based on the successful candidate's experience level and location. Treaty/Earth Island do not hire outside this salary range for this role level, in order to ensure equitable pay across our team.

In rare circumstances when a candidate is overqualified for this level of role, and thus can operate at a higher level and take on even more responsibility, we would hire that candidate into a more senior role, with increased responsibilities and expectations. It is possible that a candidate hired into the more senior role would take on management of other team members in the future. That more senior role would have the same title, as Head of European Campaigns & Advocacy, in our organization, and the salary range, inclusive of mandated pensions etc, would be $60,000 -$80,000 USD, paid in local currency, and set depending on experience and location.

Depending on circumstances, the role could be structured as full-time or part-time employment or an ongoing consulting retainer contract. The total compensation package will be commensurate with experience and location. We encourage applicants to apply as soon as possible. This position is open until filled.
