Position Summary
The SCA Intern will support the development of the Fifth Ward Houston Healing Garden, a community garden for resilience and healing that will be located at the Carl Walker, Jr. Multipurpose Center. The vision for the garden is this: an accessible garden located on the grounds of the Carl Walker Center / Fifth Ward MBC that will promote community wellness, resilience, and sustainability while also reducing stress, enhancing neighborly connections, and growing fresh produce. The goal of this project will be to take this vision and make it a reality. You will achieve this goal by supporting the planning and design of the 5th Ward Healing Garden, organizing garden workdays, and creating a plan to help sustain the garden for its first year of operation and beyond.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate Garden team meetings with CEER staff, community partners, and CEER members; Support garden design, including finding plans for accessible garden beds and planning out what tools, resources, and volunteer roles will be needed for project implementation; Craft a budget for materials and supplies; Develop a garden plan for its first year of operations, including planting and harvest schedules, water and maintenance schedules, and proposed timing of future garden work days; Help lead garden work days alongside CEER staff and other key volunteers.
Marginal Duties
Attend staff meetings, resilience hub meetings, and Northeast Community Meetings; Craft social media posts, blog posts, and/or other reports; Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Experience or a strong interest in gardening, permaculture, and/or horticulture; Access to a vehicle required; A strong commitment to environmental justice.
Preferred Qualifications
Spanish language skills; Exposure to project management skills.

40 per week
Living Accommodations
Local candidates only; no housing provided
Compensation
Living allowance: $850 per week
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
