HUNTER EDUCATION COORDINATOR – Position #K0233950
This unclassified, full-time position is located in the Education Division and is directly supervised by the Education Division Director. The primary duty location will be determined depending on the successful candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for directing all aspects of the statewide Kansas Hunter Education Program.
- Coordinates delivery of hunter education services with other agency personnel and volunteer instructors.
- Develops, coordinates and evaluates educational curriculum to meet statutory requirements and national standards for certification courses.
- Plans, coordinates and conducts instructor orientation and in-service training events to include agency and program policy/procedure updates.
- Develops and maintains in-person and online training materials for instructors and establishes a feedback/communication channel to evaluate its effectiveness.
- Provides guidance and training in program application and supervises two part-time temporary employees and approximately 1,500 volunteer instructors, ensuring compliance with Department policy and procedures.
- Administers and manages program planning and USFWS federal aid grant.
- Responsible for maintaining all documents and databases relating to federal funding and federal aid requirements.
- Provides training records for department employees and volunteer instructors and maintains allied record systems.
- Administers student and course records, issuance of duplicate cards.
- Supervises record keeping completed by subordinates; assign work among clerical staff; establish priorities for completion of work and provide guidance in resolving complex issues.
- Facilitates or assists assigned coordinators / administrators in: hunter education, fur harvester education, bowhunter education, shooting sports (the National Archery in Schools program; the Student Air Rifle program; shotgun shooting sports; rifle shooting sports), Becoming an Outdoors Woman and R3 outdoor engagement events.
- Assists the Education Division Director with administration of the shooting range development program, including development and maintenance of program guidelines, review and assessment of grant requests and ensuring compliance with program guidelines and environmental standards.

Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two years of experience in providing direction necessary to implement the objectives of an agency, program or organizational unit. Education may be substituted for experience a determined relevant by the agency.
- Current certification as an outdoor instructor or able to obtain such certification within 60 days of hire.
- Four years of work or study in education or biology with a working knowledge and application of teaching and communication techniques preferred.
- Preferred applicants will have excellent public speaking skills, experience with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), video capture, editing and production skills.
- The ideal candidate will have experience with firearms, archery, trapping, boating and fishing along with a history as a leader/mentor/instructor and a love for the outdoors.
- This position requires the use of a firearm for live-fire instruction, hunting and simulated hunting situations. Candidates cannot have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor domestic violence crime as set forth in 18 U.S.C.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check are required.
