The Umatilla Basin Hydrologist leads projects that advance the understanding and management of groundwater and surface water resources across the Umatilla Basin, with an emphasis on the Umatilla Indian Reservation. This position is responsible for designing and implementing hydrologic investigations; developing monitoring and modeling tools; collecting and interpreting field data; evaluating stream gaging networks; and managing datasets to support long-term decision-making.
The Hydrologist provides high-quality technical analysis to inform water planning, water use enforcement, and policy development consistent with the CTUIR Water Code and guiding frameworks such as First Foods, River Vision, and the Climate Adaptation Plan. The position works collaboratively with Tribal leadership, interdisciplinary Natural Resources programs, and external partners to support water management, drought planning, and basin-wide initiatives.
Responsibilities include developing and managing research and monitoring projects, contributing to strategic planning efforts, supporting Tribal Water Code implementation and updates, coordinating with internal and external partners, and communicating technical findings to a variety of audiences. Depending on project scope and funding, the position may also provide leadership and supervision for technical staff.
