The Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program at the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy is seeking to fulfill a full-time, contract-funded term position for 18 months. The iMapInvasives Information Assistant will be responsible for carrying out tasks related to populating and maintaining the Pennsylvania iMapInvasives database, an online platform for tracking invasive species and sharing information. The primary emphasis for the iMapInvasives Information Assistant position is to assist in the procurement and processing of invasive species information, confirmation of records, and maintaining the database. The iMapInvasives Information Assistant works in conjunction with the Pennsylvania iMapInvasives team, biologists in the program, and external partners to confirm the identity of species and integrate the information, as directed, into various tools and datasets. In addition, the iMapInvasives Information Assistant will assist with researching information about invasive species, communicating with database users, and providing support for trainings and outreach.
Qualifications:
- Experience with invasive species and identifying characteristics of a selection of taxa groups
- Experience working with GIS software to create and edit features and tables and produce maps
- Experience working with spreadsheets and relational databases, such as Microsoft Excel and Access
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in biology, conservation, or a related scientific field
- A successful candidate is detail-oriented and a problem solver and possesses good communications skills
