Intern will perform duties as assigned pertaining to the biology program and visitor use of the Upper Mississippi River NW&FR, McGregor District. The incumbent serves as an intern assisting with the operations of the refuge's biological programs and visitor services. Intern will also cooperate with the Friends of Pool 9 on various projects.
- Assist refuge biological program. Duties may include rusty patch bumblebee surveys, invasive species mapping and removal, Threatened plant (Northern Monkshood) monitoring, Bald Eagle nest production surveys, breeding bird surveys, floodplain forest inventory, and habitat monitoring.
- Initiates or assists with development or revision of interpretive materials, such as signs, brochures, guidebooks, handouts, and exhibits. Operates a variety of audiovisual and other equipment used in connection with interpretive programs.
- Assist FOP9 with tasks and special events including Kids Fishing Day, Pool Clean-up, Mississippi River Education Days, and newsletter articles.
- Work with other FWS team members as needed.
- Current valid driver’s license
- Ability to communicate in writing and orally.
- Self-motivated
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work long hours in the field under all weather conditions often in a boat.
- Interest in natural resource conservation
