Job summary: We’re looking for an invasive plant research intern to join our remote team. You’ll support our environmental initiatives by researching invasive plant identification, management, and control for materials that land stewards, Conservation Scouts, and Conservation Rangers can use in the field. We're a small nonprofit that collaborates with many top environmental and conservation organizations in Virginia. Sample projects:
- Conduct research and update information in our Plant ID & Control App
- Conduct research into Early Detection Rapid Response (EDRR) species identification and control to support Conservation Scout and Conservation Ranger programs
- Suggest and contribute to communications assets that provide new information on EDRR plant species
- Contribute innovative ideas to enhance research efforts
Requirements/skills:
- U.S. work authorization
- Adept at conducting online research from credible sources to support materials
- Demonstrated interest in environmental and conservation issues
- Ability to translate scientific concepts into accessible language for a general audience
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- 1-to-1 meetings weekly
Education:
Sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in environmental science, biology, botany, ecology, natural resources, forestry, or a related field
Minimum time requirements:
- Summer, 20 hours a week for 8 weeks
- Academic term, 10 hours a week for 15 weeks
